Neuroinflammation is implicated in the pathophysiology of many neurological disorders. This often involves several key steps which when interfered with can prevent the normal resolution of the proinflammatory state. Central to this is the importance of phytochemicals, antioxidants and various vitamins and minerals. One such important vitamin is thiamine(B1). Vitamin B1 has been found to be helpful in many metabolic reactions involving brain function. Now, research has centered on the fat-soluble form of thiamine, namely benfotiamine. During my presentation, I will review the importance of thiamine and focus on the benefits of benfotiamine and its role in preventing neuroinflammation.
